Our Nursery Setting
At Bertie’s Nursery, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing, engaging, and enriching environment for your child. Our nursery is divided into four age-specific rooms, each designed to meet the unique developmental needs of our children. Through a blend of structured activities and free play, we foster learning, creativity, and independence while ensuring every child feels valued and cared for.
Mini Movers (6 - 16 months)
At Bertie’s we call our babies Mini Movers and we take a maximum of nine babies. Our baby room team fully appreciate the extraordinary trust families place in them to look after their children and they delight in sharing special moments with each baby. These moments are recorded and shared with parents through our parent portal.
The warm, comfortable room is home from home. Beautifully, sensitively equipped it entices babies to relax but simultaneously to be curious and inquisitive. The babies have the opportunity to go on lovely walks to see the local farmyard animals and to explore the baby garden.
Twinkle Toes (16 - 28 months)
Once the babies are fully mobile and confident they move up to our toddler room.
In Twinkle Toes our toddlers are active and interested in everything.
Verbal communication is increasingly encouraged, physical challenges are extended. Curiosity is constantly stimulated and praise is used in abundance. Activities are planned around each child's interests ensuring they experience the full range of developmental skills and attitudes.
Importantly the foundation interpersonal attitudes of care, kindness and respect are also gently laid.
The toddlers love exploring the indoor bridge in Twinkle Toes and the extensive outdoor leaning area is used every day. Our Twinkle Toes love to walk down the road to see the farmyard animals, the donkeys and explore the nearby woods.
Tweenies (2 - 3 years)
After Twinkle Toes our toddlers move into our 2s and 3s room.
At this stage of development a delicate balance between adult led and child initiated learning is carefully established. The young children are encouraged to be creative in their play but simultaneously they are introduced to new activities, new experiences that extend their interest and curiosity. Circle times are introduced and our Tweenies enjoy a regular story time.
The double doors of Tweenie's open straight out to the stunning, extensive playground area, part of which is undercover and sheltered from the elements. Our Tweenies are growing in confidence and independance is encouraged. Learning to use the potty, put on their own wellies and coats, and listening to the adults and other friends are all important parts of being a Tweenie.
Jumping Beans (3 - 4 years)
Our Pre-School children are known as Jumping Beans. In preparation for moving to the more formal environment of school and the Reception Classes, our Jumping Beans begin to use more school routines, with daily circle times, story times, lining up, washing hands and getting ready to go outside.
At this stage each child's communication skills are being honed, for example they are encouraged to carefully listen and to share in turn thoughts and views. Phonics and numeracy is introduced throughout the year. Games, songs and activities are used to reinforce sounds in a fun, interactive manner. Care, kindness and respect remain essential qualities of the children, good manners are consolidated.
Our Jumping Beans enjoy weekly sessions with qualified staff in Classical Music, Forest School and Spanish.
